Hutong is the unique street design in Beijing - some crisscrossing old narrow paths with courtyard houses built on each side. It can be regarded as a window into Beijing folk life. The history of Hutong can be traced back to the construction campaign of this capital city in China 's Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368).
The traditional 3-wheel rickshaw will take you through the old, narrow Hutongs. See the authentic residential area, check out the interesting traditional Chinese house, courtyard, local grocery market, then climb to a local bell tower, have a birds view of the area around, then get to the beautiful Houhai lake, wonder around, stop for some lovely Chinese tea or sip a cup of coffee, later on stop to visit a real Chinese family, get to know Beijing people's real life. This trip is an excellent touch of the old real Beijing , great for groups or families.
